Winter in the Bahamas

If you’re spending all or even a part of the winter in the Bahamas, well, you’re certainly Lucky (and that’s definitely with a capital “L”)!

Aside from the warm temperatures (temperatures tend to range in the weeks from December through April range from 75 to 85 degrees F), the islands receive little rain at this time, making the winter months the best time to go if you’re looking for warm breezes and the chance to bask on the beach without fear of a tropical rainstorm ruining your day. This is the perfect chance to get to do all the things to do in the Bahamas.

Yet, because the weather is so terrific, you should be prepared to enjoy it with many, many, many people. Winter is the time of year when the Bahamas are packed. Hotels, restaurants and excursion operators also tend to raise their rates at this time of year and you need to be prepared for the extra cost and the crowds (you could find yourself standing in line for some of the more popular attractions/venues).

That said, there are many more reasons to come here when the weather is cold up north. For one thing, the islands are hopping with entertainment possibilities. The clubs and restaurants put on their best shows at this time and the crowds are lively and ready to roll! The energy then is just incredible.

Also, the holiday musical celebration/parade known as Junkanoo takes place in Nassau on December 26 (also known as Boxing Day) and on New Year’s Day. This traditional parade (which some believe harkens from the 16th and 17th centuries) is an event not to be missed, as bands play musical instruments (drums, horns, etc.) and dance troupes (some as large as 1,000 members) shimmy to the pulsing beat down Bay Street, dressed in wildly colorful costumes made of crepe paper attached to clothing, cardboard and wood.

Even if you can’t make it to the Bahamas around the December holidays, a visit in January, February or March is sure to help you beat the winter blues, even if you live in California, Arizona, Florida, or another warm-winter state.

And for those of you who live in Chicago, Minneapolis, NYC, Boston, Buffalo, Philly, or even Burlington, Vermont…what are you waiting for?! Book your Bahamas vacation now – you’ll have something wonderful to look forward to as you shovel your walkway in January….
