When coming to the Bahamas, a country that made up of 29 major islands (and thousands of smaller cays and islets), you are sure to find yourself out on the water experiencing the clear blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Whether it's a Bahamas Bahamas snorkeling tour, scuba diving, or a Bahamas dolphin tour, the Bahamas are ready with all kinds of water activities. The country, however, also has some fascinating, exciting, and interesting tours on land.
Historical and Cultural Bahamas
Like many other islands and countries in the Caribbean, the Bahamas have a strong Spanish colonial influence. The history of the Bahamas has been shaped by the indigenous Taino people who originally inhabited the islands, Spanish explorers, English settlers and relationships with America. One of the most interesting things you will see in the Bahamas are the beautiful and majestic colonial-era architecture such as the Government House (built in 1801 in a mixed Bahamian-British and American colonial style) and the Balcony House (built in 1788 and transformed into a museum housing period antiques). Nassau Bahamas is where you will find the largest number of historical sites since this is the town (found on New Providence Island) that has served as the capital of the Bahamas for decades. This is also where you will find the colonial era Parliament Square.
Botanical Gardens and National Parks
The Bahamas has some of the Caribbean's most beautiful natural areas and manicured gardens. Out on the water, you will see fascinating worlds of the coral reef gardens, but on land you will find that the Bahamas also have excellent on-land nature spots. Harrold and Wilson Ponds National Park is a gorgeous 250-acre national park located in the heart of New Providence. It is mostly known as one of the Bahamas most critical bird habitats and bird watching enthusiasts from all over the world are familiar with the park. The Primeval Forest National Park is another great place on New Providence to go nature watching. It is smaller than Harrold and Wilson Ponds but features beautiful and undisturbed habitats such as sinkholes and limestone caves.
Entertainment and Dining
Then, of course, there are all the great activities you can experience in the world of entertainment, dining, and nightlife while on land in the Bahamas. Both Nassau and Freeport Bahamas is known to cater to the tourist looking for a laid-back and enjoyable time and Bahamians take this seriously. As far as entertainment and nightlife go, you should definitely check out one of the dance clubs in either city including Club Waterloo (one of the oldest nightclubs in the Bahamas), Joker's Wild Comedy Club (which brings in comedy acts from all over), and Pure Nightlife (a fancy an high-energy club and lounge). As far as dining goes, the Bahamas have cuisine from all over the world. For local and authentic Bahamian cuisine, try Da Junkanoo Shack; you will likely find yourself coming back here. For delicious Greek food in a Greek-like environment, try Athena Cafe. For some of the best and freshest seafood around, head to the Blue Lagoon Seafood Restaurant and Grill Terrace.
