If you’re coming to Freeport Bahamas on vacation, we doubt you’re there because you want to see live theater (although you might go once you’re here).
No. You’re visiting the Bahamas for some sun and fun, some sand and waves, some swimming and sun bathing.
In other words, you’ll more than likely spend a good amount of time on the beach! These beaches are so tempting that we offer beach tours that include water activities, beach parties and lots of food and beverages!
But which beach? There are so many beautiful ones to choose from.
Read below for some information on Freeport’s beaches.
- There basically are two different types of Freeport beaches: secluded beaches and beaches with lots of people and activities to enjoy.
- Xanadu Beach, Taino Beach, Lucaya Beach, and others, definitely are for people who like to do as they relax, offering beach goers the chance to try parasailing, snorkeling, windsurfing, etc.
- Taino Beach, for example, is a very family oriented beach. Located just about five minutes from the Port Lucaya Marketplace, the beach is open to the public and offers clean restrooms. Taino also has a small playground area.
- Xanadu Beach is probably the most popular beach on Grand Bahama Island; it may be crowded when you visit because of the many of the aforementioned activities (parasailing, anyone?).
- Head on over to the southwest and southeast parts of the island and you’ll find several secluded beaches, including Gold Rock Beach (a part of Lucayan National Park). Known particularly well for its famous low-tide, the beach also has barbeque pits and picnic tables. Be warned, however: Gold Rock Beach has no bathrooms.
- Cable Beach (which gets its name because it’s the site of the first U.S.-to-Bahamas telegraph cable) is four miles of beautiful white sand. It’s not secluded – many resorts, restaurants and entertainment venues line its shore – but it is the largest expanse of sand on Grand Bahama.
- If you like quiet as you enjoy the surf and sand, visit Fortune Beach, which gets its name from a $2 million shipwreck found there.
- Lucaya Beach is a hub of activity – go parasailing or snack on roast conch.
- Williams’ Town Beach and Smith’s Point Beach also are popular Freeport beaches.
