UNEXSO Shark Dive

Looking for a thrilling one-of-a-kind diving adventure? UNEXSO's Shark Dive expedition is the perfect tour for the venturesome scuba diver. This two tank dive program will acquaint divers with wild sharks off the coast of the Bahama Islands.

Experience a heart-pounding close-up view of these magnificent, yet misunderstood, creatures. UNEXSO pioneered this exhilarating dive almost 20 years ago. The first diving operation to offer shark diving on Grand Bahama Island, our company is considered the preeminent authority in shark behavior and conservation on the island. Our expert staff will organize a personal encounter with the Caribbean Reef Sharks at UNEXSO's Shark Junction.

Learn about these remarkable predators in our expanded pre-dive briefing. Our lecturers will dispel the common misconceptions about sharks. Gain insight into shark behavior, biology, feeding habits, migration, and other fascinating information about this highly misunderstood species. Become astounded by the frenetic display of a shark feeding. Unlike the typical dive expeditions, clients spend this dive kneeling on the sandy sea floor in a semi-circle.

Our expert shark feeders will then attract the sharks to approach with a bait container. The staff member then uses a diving spear to safely regulate the release of food, manipulating the sharks' behavior. Novice shark divers may be too distracted with the phenomenon of whirling predators to notice the feeder maintaining a polite buffer. However, be warned -- the reef sharks will come extremely close -- but they will be far more concerned with the enticing bait than any diver.

You will come away from the experience with a new appreciation of these awe-inspiring animals and understand the need for increased preservation efforts.

What are the requirements to participate in this dive?
This dive requires an open water certification or higher.

What goes on during a shark dive?
This dive is a two-tank dive. Your first dive will typically be a free swim with the sharks at a dive site named the Shark Wall. This wall is located right next to one of the feeding sites used on this dive, so when the boat pulls up the sharks know its feeding time. The second dive is a feeding dive with the feeding done by the shark feeder. This dive can get really exciting as the sharks seek out their free meal.

Can you pick us up from our cruise ship or hotel?
Unfortunately, there is not a pick up provided for this activity.

What are water conditions like?
All dives occur on the south side of the island where waters conditions are great all year round. Visibility remains clear and consistent all year round. Water tempatures change seasonally but average between 72 - 78f.

Can I use/bring my own scuba diving equipment?
Yes. Many people feel more comfortable using equipment they are familiar with and are best suited towards their body type. While we do everything to ensure our divers are using the safest, most reliable gear we do allow our divers to use their own dive gear.

Can my non-diving partner come on the dive?
No, unfortunately only divers may come on this trip.

Is there a restroom on the boat?
Yes. There is a restroom or "Marine Head" for use on the boat.

What about sharks and other sea creatures?
With all the media hype it's understandable why people often ask this question but the truth is that unprovoked shark attacks are very, very rare and attacks on scuba divers are even more rare. Our staff, divers and dive masters are all trained in making sure your dive is safe and enjoyable.
